    Steve, how bright is the a9iii’s screen? Is it no problem to use it at bright sunlight or is it still dull like on the a9ii or even a1 or is the one of the Z6 III better? Talking of the LCD, not EVF. Thanks for help!

    Hi Steve, Thank you so much for your video's! I enjoyed it here in The Netherlands! I still have a few questions. Sorry for my English :-). * In (D3) the pre-release capture option section you say it's only for JPEG. I only shoot RAW and want to use this option. Are you sure this about this? I cannot find nowhere in the manual that this option is not compatible with RAW. * The Firmware of my camera is V1.00. It's the same as your version. In your version are more options and different options as in the Dutch Version I use. Do you have an pre-release camera? For example: I have no a14 Manual focus ring in AF mode option in the menu, a13 is the end. How is this possible with the same version? * why is the support of HEIC/HEIF files so poor on Windows 11? I know it's a new feature, but it's allready known in Windows for years (also Video-codecs). I use Irfanview as free viewer. I had to install an extra (free) codec in Windows 11 in a special way (wic_heic-v1.0.3.zip). With NXView (free version) there were no problems. I now can view HIF files in LR, Irfanview, NXView en Photos of Windows 11. * Will there be an Dutch translation in september when your book is in the shop? Keep on the good work! Ad DeCort, The Netherlands

    Hi Steve. Just discovered your videos and they are awesome. Have a quick question. Does the z6iii have recall shooting functions like the Z8/z9? I use this quite often on the z8 and found it very useful to assign a whole set of functions to one press of a button. I am reading that the z6iii does not offer this? Hoping you can verify. Thanks.

    Hi. When I'm doing fashion, I often need to switch from portrait to detail, like focusing on the lips or on a piece of jewelry worn on the face and detecting the eyes. In this case, I have a problem: I find it much too slow to go to the I menu. I couldn't find a setting that would let me disable face detection in 1 click. It's really a big flaw. Do you have a tip?

    • @backcountrygallery
      @backcountrygallery День тому

      Not for the Z6iii. You can set Recall Shooting Functions to do that in the Z8/9, but there's nothing similar in the Z6iii. FWIW, I've been telling Nikon forever we need a way to quickly turn off Subject Detection in these cameras. One other thought is to use a User Settings Bank for it - U1 and U2 set the same but U1 has face detection on and U2 has it off. However, it's not as easy as a button push.

    Incredible shots! Question: How does your experience with the Z6iii compare with the D500 (a very nice Nikon DX camera)? In the one photo of the juvenile Night Heron, you mention cropping almost like the camera was in DX mode. Would it make sense to shoot wildlife with a Nikon Z6iii in DX mode if they don't have the full arsenal of lenses that you can draw from (say they were limited to a Nikon Z 100-400 mm f4.5-5.6)? (I already have a Z8 and Z9, and a decent group of Z lenses, so this question is more for friends that shoot with a D500.) Would the resolution of the 24MP sensor hold up in that scenario assuming they can't fill the frame with the subject?

  • @jorgepinogarciadelasbayonas
    @jorgepinogarciadelasbayonas День тому

    For the birders: You only make heavy crops out of your photos if you don't have enough focal length with your lens. Otherwise the statements that 24 MP is not enough are not very substantial. And the difference between 33 MP and 24 MP is only 9 MP. That's not enough to get any noticeable improvement.

    Nice video as ever, Steve. I have the A1 and was using the 100-400 lens. But planning to get the 300 2.8.. looks quite light and pairing with the A1 and a 1.4 teleconverter, it should cover quite a good range at f4. If one uses the APSC mode in the A1, still longer reach, so all in all that looks like a great combination - even better than the 100-400's flexibility.

      As mentioned in the video (I think I mentioned it anyway LOL), you only see that option if you have a compatible lens. Usually that translates to a Z series lens (It must be a Z series, no adapted glass) with a dedicated focus ring (something like the 180-600 for instance that just has a control ring won't cut it). Also, some lenses may require a firmware update to see it, but again, if there's no dedicated focus ring, no luck.

    Steve - I’m an amateur who less than occasionally shoots wildlife but find your videos and books quite essential and valuable! I know you suggest lossless compression in the setup guide but wanted to pass off to any apple photos and Mac users something I learned the hard way - lossless compression is the only raw option that is recognized by MAC OS and iOS. - i.e. Apple software only reads to the last level of Z6ii NEF Files so the other raw compression options can’t be read.

Just this morning I was out with the Z6iii and ran into a couple of situations where the Z8 was a better fit. The first was a distant owl that I will have to crop a bit to make work and the second was some fast-paced action with swallows - I could have used both a little more resolution and a little better AF on those.

    Damn now that's some retired dentist level gear! Almost 6k for a 300mm! I'm out 😂 I don't begrudge seasoned wildlife photographers that have had an entire career of working up to this sort of gear but it's bloody hard watching new folk turning up with this stuff.

    Thanks again, Steve. Just finished the 4th setup video. Even went back and quickly went through the first two now that I have the Z6III in hand. I know it took you a lot of time to put these together. Thanks so much...great job!
